The Remidio Anterior Imaging Module (AIM) uses high quality AR coated optics, combined with a beam splitter design that matches to the magnification drum optics of most slit lamps with 3-step or higher magnification.
Traditional low cost smartphone based slit lamp imaging designs, tend to place the smartphone on one of the eyepieces of the slit lamp. This approach often needs a variation in the position of the smartphone from the eyepiece, customization for the aperture and diameter of the eyepiece, depending on the magnification of the eyepiece, leading to smaller fill of the smartphone sensor, lower resolution images and non-uniformly illuminated images.

The slit lamp is a fixed focus optical design. Thus it is important that the clinician be driven by the focus of what he/she sees on the eyepiece of the slit lamp rather than by what the smartphone chooses to focus on.
The expert settings in the Remidio AIM app, ensures that the focus is determined purely by the position of the slit lamp, and what the clinician sees in focus on the eyepiece is what he/she records on the smartphone

A universal design requires that the image seen on the smartphone matches that seen on the eyepiece of the slitlamp, irrespective of the light source used – halogen, warm white or cool white LED. This is achieved by the use of the saturation temperature settings that allows the image color to match the color temperature of the light source used

Anterior segment imaging requires an optical design that allows sharp focus of a particular layer in the anterior segment, and hence a small depth of focus, albeit with a higher magnification. However, imaging using gonio lenses for angles, often requires extremely narrow depth of focus setting, that is often difficult to capture, as the joystick wheel base of the slit lamp may have travel resolutions that do not support such small depth of focus imaging. The Remidio App, in such cases allows the clinician to control the multi-element voice coil on the smartphone to ensure that a sharp image is captures.
